Pakistan's PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) operates the DIRBS (Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System) — one of the most active national IMEI compliance systems in the world. Any phone with an unregistered or non-compliant IMEI is blocked from Pakistani networks.

PTA DIRBS and IMEI Registration

  • All phones in Pakistan must be DIRBS-registered to work on Telenor, Jazz, Zong, Ufone, and SCO
  • Non-compliant IMEI phones are automatically blocked after a grace period
  • Travelers may use foreign-IMEI phones for 60 days (with registration)

Common Issues in Pakistan's Phone Market

  • Non-registered Chinese imports sold without PTA approval
  • Phones with cloned or forged IMEIs
